Carrying the Carter legacy of peace and health into a new era
Paige Alexander took the helm as CEO of The Carter Center in June 2020—in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic and a period of national unrest. Her charge was to steer the center through those challenges while charting its path forward.
From founder-led to founder-guided
As the center moved from being led by its founders to being guided by their principles, Paige strengthened its core peace and health programs and opened new areas of work. Under her leadership, the center has taken on the global mental health crisis, political polarization in the United States, and the effects of climate change on peace and public health.
A career in global development
Paige brings more than 20 years of experience in government and the nonprofit world. Before joining The Carter Center, she held Senate-confirmed senior leadership posts at two regional bureaus of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID), overseeing missions and development programs in 25 countries.
